ANNOUNCING A BUNCH of FUN new class offerings THAT WE HAVE NOT DONE BEFORE:

Elite Advanced Class - 3:30 PM Sunday - November 4th for 6 weeks (At The Pampered Pet Hotel & Spa in Woodland Hills)  For on-going Advanced students (or with approval from instructor)

Puppy Socialization Head Start - 5:15 PM Sunday - November 4th for 6 weeks (At The Pampered Pet Hotel & Spa in Woodland Hills) For puppies from 10 weeks to 6 months and will primarily focus on socializing puppies with other puppies, people, different materials, sights, sounds, etc.  A basic clicker introduction will be included as well as basics like Sit, Down, and Come.  Potty training, crate training, and puppy manners will be covered.  The best way to set your puppy up for success in the future!

High Energy & Control - 6:30 PM Sunday - November 4th for 6 weeks (At The Pampered Pet Hotel & Spa in Woodland Hills)~You know who you are!  This is a class specifically created for our especially high energy K9 friends!  Often this class is particularly good for herding breeds (Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, etc.), but is also now open to other high energy dogs.  Dogs will need to have at least an Intermediate level education and be social with other dogs (we will be doing off-leash work, so no reactive dogs).

Tricks Level 1 Class -6:45 PM Tuesday – November 6th for 6 weeks - (At The Pampered Pet Hotel & Spa)

~Paw, Wave, Back-up, Crawl, Bow, Spin Left & Right, Sit Up (Stick-em Up!), Play Dead (On Your Side), Roll-Over, Sad Puppy (Head Down), Leg Weaves (Figure Eight), and a caught behavior.  This is a great intro level tricks class, and would also be a good review for a lot of the dogs as it will be in a different location!

Intro to Rally Obedience - 8:15 PM Tuesday – November 6th (At The Pampered Pet Hotel & Spa)~We will cover what Novice Rally Obedience entails, what the signs are, and teach the dogs how to perform each one.  A whole lot of fun for our more advanced dogs!

These classes are $115.00 if you pay by PayPal, $105.00 if you send cash or check.

You can go to My Best Friend Obedience to register or for more information.

These NEW classes will be taught by our new trainer, Katie McGuire!

The following is her bio…she was formerly a trainer (group, private and regional for other trainers), at Pet Smart in Canoga Park and changed people’s perception of “large pet store” training classes!  They are really very sad to lose herL, but we are more than ecstatic to welcome her to MY BEST FRIEND OBEDIENCE!  Just so you know I already heard of Katie, and her wonderful training style, from our students who had taken her trick classes!  After she decided to join us, I got calls from colleagues lamenting that she did not choose them!  That makes us feel pretty special here at My Best Friend!

Katie’s BioJ

I have always loved animals, especially dogs, but didn’t get an opportunity to have a dog of my own until I was 11. If you look at pictures from when I was younger I would always find dogs to hug and love on.  My training experience started before this however, with horses, as well as my household cats (teaching my felines tricks like sit, sit-up, and wave)!  I spent a large amount of my teen years pet sitting, fostering and training rescue dogs, training friends’ and neighbors’ dogs, attending classes in agility and herding, as well as continuing my equine experience taking part in jumping competitions, and working as a horse trainer's assistant.  I researched everything I possibly could on dog training in my spare time, discovering different methods and developing my talent for working with animals.

In 2007 I began teaching group obedience classes and quickly discovered that helping people train their own dogs was just as wonderful as training the dogs themselves!  Watching the relationship between human and dog develop is truly magical, and I can’t imagine something being more rewarding.  I also began conducting many one on one sessions with dogs who had behavioral issues, and through continued research and experience developed my education in positively based behavior modification techniques.  I have also worked with American Humane Association as an On-Set Safety Representative, making sure that animals were being trained, handled, and treated according to humane guidelines while working on film and television productions.  Then, while earning my Bachelor’s degree from University of California Santa Barbara, I completed an internship with a company training dogs for the entertainment industry, where I gained more valuable knowledge on specific training techniques.

I currently compete in Rally Obedience, Agility, and Conformation with my 2 miniature long hair Dachshunds, and my Pyrenean Shepherd.  I am an APDT member and an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator, and I attend seminars to further my education in dog behavior and training.  I utilize positive reinforcement methods, and I have a passion for teaching tricks. I love to teach everything from sit, down, and stay, to hand-stand, paw/wave, head down/head up, speak, retrieve, sneeze, turn on and off lights, push buttons, do behaviors at a distance (on a mark) and a variety of other advanced behaviors. Katie McGuire AKA KatherineK9
